
Spell Reel: resisting colonial narratives through the archive
When writing about the archives in relation to Portuguese colonial history, one word normally comes to mind: its nostalgia for, as Michel-Rolph Trouillot argues, “a history that it never lived”. With this, using archives to glorify the country’s colonial past and erase its oppression comes as no surprise. However, in recent years, attempts have been made to write new words and stress the history that was actually lived.
